When something so harsh could seem like fantasy, you know it’s horrible. It was the last night of the war. The trees were lit by the moon casting shadows upon the valley, and I could see it all from my bedroom window. I live in Aralamere, upon the biggest hill, near the Falls of Shoriss. I never realized how beautiful the night sky was until I became a part of it.
Last summer my best friend, Stillera, passed away and since she was the king’s daughter, her soul became a star as it passed on. We were so close. Every night I’d have dreams about her and the valley, but in every dream a tall, slender man comes into town and things go wrong. It like she’s talking to me. This man wears a long, black coat that seems to erupt from the shadows, and although I cannot see his face I know there are secrets hidden within him.
This night was no different than any other. The tall man, or figure I should say, would appear out of a wall . . . out of no where. I imagined his body being able to shift to the color and texture of the stone walls. Rough and gray. The night guard would walk straight up to the man but abruptly fall asleep. It was as if this thing had powers indescribable, and unpredictable. His powers were at length the greatest thing I’d ever witnessed, but I had no idea whether they were real or fake.
The dream would quickly advance, showing the figure approaching Shoriss Falls. No . . . not Shoriss Falls, but my home, my little cottage on the hill. He would approach the house, and mutter something, which sounded a lot like Ancient Greek, but I’d had no idea whether it was that for sure. The ground would quake and my home would tumble straight through the earth into a tunnel never before seen by man kind, and as soon as the daylight struck through the little hole in my roof and I was awake, I screamed.
I was so confused, my house was twenty or thirty feet below ground with no way out, except . . . the tunnel. Well the thing was I didn’t know if that was the way out at all, or if I would ever get out, but one thing I knew was that I was brought here for a reason. I felt a tugging in my mind, pulling me towards the tunnel, but my heart said no, it told me I would die if I went in, but I had to take the risk. As I neared the door of my house, the dream ended.
I woke up sweaty, but glad it was all just a dream like every other morning. I wondered why I had had those dreams, but I was young and than the others in my village. They would mock me, saying things like, Aloria you’re so dumb! Why don’t you live with the cows?! They never really had good come-backs, but it still hurt. I felt as if I was in a fairy tale, like my whole life was fake.
I hopped out of my little bed, still in my bright blue pajamas that my grandmother had made for me, and looked out the window. The sun was shining, but as I ran to the front door, something felt wrong. I slowly put my hand to the knob, but pulled back instantly. It was so cold! I had the thought to step back, but I ran, all the way through the back door and towards the Falls.
When the feeling faded, I sat down near the edge of the pond beneath the waterfall. I dragged my finger through the water drawing a heart. I watched as the water rippled from the heart, and hit everything else in the pond. Sometimes I wished my heart could do that. I wished I could touch everyone else and show them what I felt.
Stillera was my only friend, but I could only see her at night considering she was a star. Every time I ventured into the village the people would mock me. I used to go to school there but it got so bad that I quit. If I had stayed I would be in 6th grade. I was only twelve years old, but I knew every secret about our quiet town. I knew that every night the butcher would wrap up a piece of the finest meat and bring it home for his family even though he wasn’t supposed to and feed the bones to the wolves. I found a little pathway leading off into the forest, where all kinds of critters were that people thought were extinct. Lets face it I knew everything.
I leaned over the water, my curly, blond hair flowing in the wind. Stillera had always liked it long, so I kept it that way. My gray eyes were deep, and sad. But the expression on my face was what bothered me most. Usually I never saw my face but today it had pain in it. I was a shy girl who was always teased, and although I acted dumb I was extremely smart.
Back at home, Aloria searched for food. The corn wasn’t fresh yet, and the wheat was frail. She would have to visit the butcher and buy some meat. Aloria searched around the house for some coins. Four gold coins were only enough for two days worth of meat, but it was all she had.
She grabbed her coat and ran down to the shop, still in her pajamas. The

Open Question: Poor compression on my Yamaha XS250c (1982) - how to solve?
I bought a Yamaha XS250c a couple of months ago. It has 23,350 miles on the clock (verified by a vehicle report). When I first got it it was having troubles starting, so my mechanic replaced the condenser and battery. Since then it has started no troubles.
It runs well, there is no rattling of the engine or black smoke. Occasionally it misfires (VERY occasionally). It does however leak oil (a spot the size of a £2 coin every night).
The mechanic wanted to see the bike again after a month to test the compression. It was very low (about 40 if I remember correctly). He seems to think that the bike is on its last legs and doesn’t think it is worth trying to fix - he predicted it had another 4,000 miles in it.
Is there anything I can do to improve the compression? Or anything I can suggest he does? I really love this bike. I spent £475 buying it and have spent £90 on it so far. I would be willing to spend another £100 getting it into good shape, but the mechanic seems to think that the end of the bike is inevitable (he hasn’t tested the bike to see why it is poorly compressed).
I’ve heard that Redex is good for flushing out the system - might this help? Or am I flogging a dead horse?
